Mutton is goat meat, however it is meat of an adult goat and not of that of a younger goat usually referred to as lamb. The age of the goat is usually judged by the size of the teeth if there is not other means of indicating age. The taste of this particular meat is usually described as being a little bit tougher than a regular cut of lamb. It is similar to the taste of a steak but the flavor is said to be more of an acquired taste than that of the younger meat.
