We’ve already discussed Classic Ice Cream Flavors, so let’s discuss some weird ice cream flavors. Here are some of the weirdest flavors of ice cream I’ve seen….and most of them are Japanese ice creams! Seems they have the most unusual flavors….
1. Octopus Ice Cream - A Japanese specialty, octopus ice cream is an ice cream flavor that will not appeal to everyone. Part delicacy, part weirdness, octopus ice cream has to be number one on this list!
2. Bacon and Egg Ice Cream - Yes, this one is true - I am not making this up. Apparently some British restaurant named The Fat Duck serves it.
3. Chicken Wing Ice Cream - Another Japanese specialty - ice cream that actually has the flavor of fried chicken wings. MMMmmmm…
4. Eel Ice Cream - Yes, another Japanese flavor!
5. Wasabi Ice Cream - Japanese of course. A tangy-wasabi flavored ice cream.
What is flavor exactly and how do you taste?
Flavor is a “taste;” it is a substance that gives a particular sensory perception to your mouth. Your mouth, which contains thousands of taste buds will sense the particular flavor of which you are eating, the taste buds will then send out the signal and you will “taste” what you taste. Your nose often works in conjunction with your sense of taste…next time you have a cold or are sick you will notice that food and flavors do not taste the same as when you are feeling well.

Here’s a great recipe for a frozen fruit smoothie:
buy a bag of frozen mixed fruit (I like to buy mine in bulk from Sam’s - it gives enough fruit to make smoothies for an entire month!) Add about 2.5 cups of frozen fruit, about 1 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of apple juice or orange juice, then sweeten the whole mixture with honey! Mix it in a blender until it’s all blended together the consistency of a thick shake.
It makes a delicious and refreshing drink - and not only are fruit smoothies flavorful and refreshing but they are also very healthY! Try it and make this fruit drink the flavor of your summer!

The flavor of fresh peach cobbler is a very southern flavor. Ideally, fresh peach cobbler should have a tasty blend of flavors including sweet flavor of summer peaches, mixed in with the fresh flavor of peach juice, and a special blend of explosive spice flavors to give the cobbler that special flavor, including either nutmeg or cinammon. Peach cobbler is a very filling dessert, and the flavor is comforting and familiar, and often reminds people of home or their grandma or grandparents house.

What makes for a good lemonade flavor? The best lemonade should be slightly sour in flavor, and sweetened only enough to reduce it from being sour enough to make your face cringe. In other words, lemonade should not be very very sweet…err on the side of being sour. As for Frozen lemonade, keep in mind that you drink frozen lemonade when it is hot, so you want it to be refreshing. If you make it too sweet, you’ll be dissatisfied with it, and you’ll want water. Therefore, you want to keep frozen lemonade slightly sour in flavor as well.
How do you make frozen lemonade? A good recipe for frozen lemonade that comes out with a good flavor is:
- approx. 1 cup of lemon juice, 3 cups of crushed ice, 3/4 cup of sugar, 3/4 cup of water. Put in the blender and blend!
Enjoy!!
Right in time for summer, let’s talk about Kool Aid Flavors! The original six flavors of Kool Aid include Raspberry, Cherry, Grape, Lemon, Orange, and Root-Beer. When the powder is mixed with the correct amount of water, all the flavors have a refreshing light taste. They also all have a very sweet-tasting flavor. Grape in particular is slightly different with a sweet-sour flavor, especially appealing to children. If you’re worried about all the sugar in Kool-Aid, you might try the sugar free flavors of kool-aid, which are Cherry, Grape, Lemonade, Soarin’ Strawberry Lemonade, and Tropical Punch. Even the sugar free versions however are surprisingly sweet and are particularly appealing to children for this reason. One interesting fact about Kool Aid: Kool Aid is the official soft drink of Nebraska!
Recipe for Kool Aid / How to Make Kool-Aid: Kool-Aid comes in powder form in little packets. The packet will tell you how much water that should be mixed with the powder. Warm one third of the water instructed in the mixing. Then mix the fruit sugar flavoring from the packet into the warm water. Then put in the rest of the water and stir. Add ice to finish it off. Let it sit for 5 minutes, and you’re ready for this summery-sweet refreshing summer flavor!
Anise cookies are especially good for those people who like the flavor of licorice or licorice flavored pastries since it is made with anise seed or anise extract which both smells and tastes like licorice. (Anise seed is a seed related to caraway, dill, and fennel, and is popular in European cooking, in particular with fish and shellfish cooking to give the food a Mediterranean flavor. Look in the spice section of the supermarket for a bottle.) Anise cookies are a great choice for the holidays because of the sweet licorice flavor..be advised though that the taste is bold, and not subtle. If you’re looking for recipes for how to make anise cookies - here’s a good Anise Cookie Recipe for those looking to use their anise extract or anise seeds in a tasty dish. Here’s another good recipe for Italian Anise Cookies. Finally, here’s another recipe for Sour Cream Anise Cookies. So licorice lovers pull out your anise extract and get cooking!

Today’s flavor is white chocolate. White chocolate is a popular variation of the classic flavor chocolate. White chocolate flavor has been described as tasting like chocolate but with a milky and smoother flavor. The ingredients for white chocolate include sugar, cocoa butter (the fat from cocoa beans), milk solids, lecithin, sugar, and vanilla. One notable difference between chocolate and white chocolate is that white chocolate does not contain chocolate liquor or cocoa solids. Because it does not have any cocoa solids, white chocolate (unlike regular chocolate) does not have any caffeine. White chocolate should not be confused with milk chocolate. (Milk chocolate actually IS chocolate, and contains sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa liquor, milk, and vanilla.) Milk chocolate appears as a brown color like chocolate, while white chocolate appears as white.White chocolate is incredibly popular, and many people that do not care for regular chocolate like white chocolate as the flavor is quite different.
