eggnog

What is eggnog? Eggnog is a traditional Christmas holiday drink made from mostly cream and eggs sprinkled on top with some nutmeg.

Traditionally spiked with Whiskey, Bourbon, or rum, but you can choose any spike you like!

Eggnog comes mostly in the one flavor, and that is a creamy, vanilla type of flavor that is very rich! There is also a hint of spice once you add the nutmeg.

Chocolate eggnog? Never seen it or heard of it but there must be a reason why they don’t make it. If you are looking for an eggnog recipe your best bet if to search the FoodNetwork website.

If you want to skip the hassle of making your own the Borden brand of eggnog is very rich and tasty. Most grocery store chains also sell their own version which many times are just as close to the quality of Borden’s.

Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving stuffing can come in a variety of flavors.   You do not need to stick with the traditional stuffing you’ve always had that your family only half-likes.  It is such a flexible food item that a good stuffing recipe can be modified to accomodate anyone’s tastes.  So this thanksgiving, let’s take a look at what options and flavors are available for your stuffing:

  • Sausage stuffing  – A traditional stuffing is typically made out of sausage which tends to leave the stuffing moist and flavorful.  It’s also very easy to make.
  • Cornbread stuffing- one of the more traditional thanksgiving stuffings, this one is made from – you guessed it -cornbread!  It’s best made with cornbread that is a day old, and is very appealing to those who like breads.
  • Panettone stuffing – a twist on traditional bread stuffing, this one is made out of a citrus-flavored Italian bread.
  • Oyster stuffing – Try something a little bit different with this rich, tasty, stuffing with oysters as the main ingredient.  Nicely compliments the turkey and will feel like you’re eating food from a 5-star restaurant.
  • Sweet Potato stuffing – if you have extra sweet potatoes, this is a good option to try.  Pecans, breadcrumbs, and sweet potatoes are the main ingredients.
  • Apple stuffing – used at both thanksgiving and christmas, this stuffing is a great choice for vegeterians.
  • Mushroom-Pecan stuffing – this flavorful stuffing is made with leeks, mushrooms, and currants, and tastes delicious with gravy.

All these thanksgiving stuffing flavors and they’re associated recipes are easy to find by doing a quick search on the net for “thanksgiving stuffing recipes”.

Twizzlers Candy Flavor

Halloween is coming up, so let’s talk about the flavors available to you in Twizzlers candy.  Twizzlers are a licorice candy made by Hershey’s.  They were originally made by a licorice company named National Licorice Company – created in 1902.  This company eventually merged with Hershey’s, putting Twizzlers out under their name.

Licorice is not everyone’s favorite candy.  It has a very distinctive flavor that only appeals to some people.  It is very chewy.  The black colored Twizzler is the only true licorice flavor, and many would describe it as very bitter tasting, as licorice is an anise-flavored candy.

With all that said, twizzlers flavors include 1.) strawberry 2.) cherry 3.) true black licorice, and 4.)chocolate flavor.

Candy Corn Flavors

One of the most popular flavors of halloween is candy corn!  Candy corn is a sweet sugary candy that’s made specifically around Halloween from honey, corn syrup, and sugar by Brach’s Confections.  Traditional candy corn is the shape of a cone and has three colors – the bottom part is yellow, the middle part is orange, and the top part is white. Indian candy corn is another popular common variety which is brown orange and white. Although some people claim the colors taste different, in fact, all the colors have the same flavor.

Candy Corn is soft and chewy and tastes very sweet. The flavor it so appealing, that according to the manufacturer, so much candy corn is eaten, that if you lined them up end to end it would circle the earth 4.5 times.

Retailers are starting to sell gourmet candy corn which comes in different flavors including: chocolate, cinammon, pumpkin spice, blackberry cobbler, cherry, green apple, and many many more flavors.

Halloween is almost here!  You see all the pumpkins in the store and want to buy them, but besides carving them, what can  you do with pumpkins?  Well, there are a number of foods that can be flavored with pumpkin to make tasty halloween treats.  So, in honor of the October season, here are some pumpkin flavored foods for you to try…starting with:

Pumpkin beer or Pumpkin Ale – a favorite halloween flavor, pumpkin beer comes around in droves once a year in October.  Depending on the beer quality, it can range from tasting like pumpkin pie to just faintly hinting of pumpkin.

Pumpkin Soup – Pumpkin soup actually has a very pleasant flavor that is good for all of fall.  Made with coriander, chicken broth, curry powder, heavy cream, and of course pumpkin – the smooth-tasting soup is a favorite of many.

Pumpkin Pie – need I say more?  Pumpkin pie flavor cannot be beat – it is mild and subtly sweet.  With a dollop of whip cream, you can’t beat it.

Pumpkin Bread – Leftover pumpkin goes great when baked into a loaf.  The bread turns out moist and spicy and is a healthy-flavorful treat.

Pumpkin Pancakes – Made like regular pancakes but with pumpkin spice and puree, this morning treat has a mild flavor you’ll love.

Pumpkin Doughnuts – MMMMmmmmm…..

Pumpkin Marmalade - Marmalade isn’t for everyone, and certainly the kind flavored with this squash isn’t, but if you want to try something a bit different, try making some marmalade with your leftovers…makes for a great holiday snack.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese – You’ll start to see it in stores…the flavor of the cream cheese mixed with the squash is delicious.
