Making the perfect hard-boiled egg is fairly simple once you know how. The key is timing…and following the steps exactly. After you’ve made them 2 or 3 times, you should have it down! Let’s get started, it’s simple!
Step 1. Choosing your eggs: 7 – 10 days old is best!
You can use any eggs, however if you use older eggs, they’re easier to peel once they’re hard boiled!! The best choice: eggs that are 7 – 10 days old. Also, it’s best to start with them at room temperature, this will help prevent them from cracking.
Step 2. Cover with water!
Put eggs in a single layer in the bottom of a saucepan and cover with about one inch of cold water.
Step 3. Boil!
Bring eggs to a boil over medium / medium-high heat. You want to go past the simmering stage, just to where the water starts to boil (or strongly simmer).
Step 4. Remove from heat!
Remove the pan from the heat, cover, and wait 12 – 14 minutes.
Step 5. Cool and peel!
Your hard boiled eggs are ready! To stop them from cooking, cool them off in an ice bath.
